David Koma – a beautiful man that creates beautiful pieces – loved by celebrities and us mere fashion mortals alike. Were you watching this last September 2oth?
The old Eurostar Terminal in London was the unique platform for David Koma’s solo debut lift off to tribal class.
The 2012 Spring/Summer Collection was inspired by artist Kim Joon and tribal body markings, as you will see the collection paints that exact picture with full on sex pot feminity true to the David Koma we know and love. The sheer skin tight initial layer comes across as a full on tribal sleeve (such a cool EDGE!) , the next layer a Koma cut dress with details of Perspex embellishments, uneven layers and sleek ladylike leather fringe trailing from nipped in waist bands.
Any other details I haven’t mentioned? – ah yes – the fascinating “I WANT” custom Minx Nails!
Top UK nail stylist Marian Newman worked with David Koma’s stylist, Kim Howells who first sent picture references that the SS12 collection would be based on. Marian then worked with Minx Nails co-founder Janice Jordan to create multiple choices of designs for the Koma team to select from.
“Kim loved all of them, so we decided to create a range that included all our ideas, but were held together by repeating themes” stated Marian. This would turn out to be custom nail fashion specific to each of his 25 looks.
“Some models have the devoré over the whole nail, some just over the tip… each is slightly different and completely unique,” explained Marian. “Furthermore, each model also wore the corresponding base color of Minx on her toes, completing the ensemble perfectly.”
Minx co-founders Dawn Lynch-Goodwin and Janice Jordan were backstage assisting Marian and her team with the Minx application. “Each set of Minx was unique and was created for a specific model, so we had to be very organized and precise,” concluded Marian, “and once all the applications were complete, it was a joy to see the vision come together.”
How fabulous that each creation had its own unique Minx Nail!? Alike with the collection there was a seamless transition of color and pattern, detailed tribal art on a clear base ebbing into blocks of color.
Marian said that when Kim laid out the finished range of Minx to show David, “he was so amazed he nearly cried.”
Emotions must have been running high – but what a pay off. An amazing show!
SO! Which one’s do you feel high about?
